"Stimulus"

Spending more than you make.. that's the road to proserity. Yeah, right. I don't care what any world-renowned economic expert says on this one, I know 100% that it is just not true. My husband and I have spent the last 15 years struggling financially because we debted our way into "prosperity". And, when it is "prosperity" paid for with Other People's Money, you always have to PAY IT BACK. Which is most often a lot of hard WORK and not much FUN. If you owe enough, you will be lucky enough to have to SCRIMP, PINCH, and DO WITHOUT for a long time. You might even end up in or near BANKRUPTCY, causing you to stay up at night with worry and dread, wringing your hands and freaking out.

And the good part is, that if you put off paying long enough, you will die and then your CHILDREN will be left with your DEBT instead of an INHERITANCE.

I have been there, tried that... and though I have no advanced graduate degrees in economics to back it up, I will shout it from the rooftops: SPENDING MORE THAN YOU MAKE IS NOT THE PATH TO PROSPERITY!!!

The bottom line is that this "stimulus package" is nothing more than a spending package, spending money that does not belong to the government. They didn't earn it, we the people did. Spending OUR money on THEIR programs, when WE are the ones trying to stay afloat and feed our families and work our businesses and live our lives, is nothing short of obscene and completely idiotic. I wish our President and Congress would wake up and figure this out for themselves. I actually have a sneaking suspicion that, like me 15 years ago, they know it already... they just don't care because there are other things (like securing eternal dependence of the people on Democrat rule and keeping the Democrats in power) that simply matter more to them.

So, I guess what I really hope is that the American people will demand that our government run our national finances the way wise families in our nation run their family finances.... by living within your means, not borrowing, and doing what is right.

A beacon to the world

So we are three days in, and apparently it is terribly important that we be able to export abortion around the world. President Obama took time out of focusing on our huge economic problems to make sure that he gave our tax money to organizations around the world who advance the cause of abortion.
And what else has he done? Well, he stopped by the press room to hang with reporters, but when one asked him a question he got upset and wouldn't answer. Then he proceeded later in the day to say that anyone who listens to Rush Limbaugh just cannot get anything done, and to retort to one Republican ," I won... I will trump you on that..." Nice.
I am impressed with one thing so far, though. The Obama administration sent a drone into Pakistan to take out a terrorist target today, killing 8. I am glad to see that we are not completely abandoning the war on terror, at least not today!
I know I am going to have to get into a more positive and proactive frame of mind with regards to politics soon, but right now I will just say that it has been an incredible frustrating and disappointing week for me.

Double Standard

Already, in just two days, it is incredible to me to see the double standard and hypocrisy in the media and from Democrats. I have already seen a TON of things that President Obama has said or done that would have been headline news ridicule if President Bush had done the very same thing.
For example, today President Obama issued some executive orders, most notably the order that the Guantanamo Bay detention center will be closed within a year. During the ceremony announcing that order, President Obama read the order and had to ask his counsel questions several times as to the specifics of the order. I was going to link to the msnbc video of the conference to prove it, but of course, they have taken it down, probably just for that reason. Anyway, the questions he asked seemed like he had not read the order. The counsel would tell him something, and then he would repeat it verbatim to the press.
George Bush was criticized for 8 years for his ineloquence and called "stupid", "clueless", etc. If it had been him in there today, the press would have the clip all over the place as an example of bush's incompetence. Yet, because of the double standard and hypocrisy, the myth of Obama's total eloquence and sheer genius goes on.
President Bush and Vice-President Cheney were also depicted as evil, crooked, and criminal. Nearly all of Bush's nominees for everything were dragged through the mud in the process of confirmation. So when President Obama nominates a Secretary of the Treasury who didn't pay his taxes to the tune of $34,000, what does the media say? Not a word beyond, "people make mistakes, it was an honest mistake. It was TurboTax's fault." When Obama makes a rule that lobbyists cannot be a part of his administration and then promptly breaks the rule by appointing two senior staffers (Deputy Secretary of Health & Human Services and Deputy Secretary of Defense) who are lobbyists, does anyone cry hypocrisy? No, instead it is, "Well, all rules must have notable exceptions."
Gag me.
I dabbled with this blog before, but have not really had the time nor the inclination to really get it going. I admit that since November's Presidential election results, I have been a bit discouraged and not really sure how to articulate myself and my views. Sometimes I feel very alone. I can totally identify with John Adams, who felt things so deeply and tried to articulate his principles constantly, but saw his warnings fall on deaf ears. Right now in America, it seems that truth and substance and common sense matter very little. We are only two days into a new presidential administration, and already I am not sleeping well at night because I am deeply troubled with the actions that are being taken.
So, I have decided that even though I will most likely have no readers, I have got to write on this blog in order just in order to express myself and get my thoughts out.
